All self-help boils down to “choose long-term over short-term.”

Here’s a clip with Naval on Tim Ferriss that expands on this a bit.

Times I’ve chosen short term this week include:

  • Eating the grilled cheese sandwich my kid didn’t want, even though I already ate
  • Browsing Reddit/Twitter/Hacker News instead of doing anything even semi-productive
  • Convincing myself I was too busy to spend my full 10 minutes lifting weights
  • Watching Brooklyn Nine-Nine instead of reading or listening to a podcast about something useful

The list goes on. Do I regret them? Yeah, I usually do afterwards. But, since I’m not a 100% productive robot, I need some of them. Or at least I convince myself I do.

When have you chosen short-term this week? Do you regret it? Should you regret it?
